Date announced for World Series of Poker 2017

Like India’s newly started PSL, there is a major poker event in the USA, called the World Series of Poker (WSOP), which will hit its 48th season in 2017.

The venue for this is the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, USA, and the event will tentatively run from 30 May to 17 July. (WSOP will release the full event-by-event schedule in February.)

“We want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and best wishes for a safe and successful 2017,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart in a release. “We are busy trying to finalize the entire 2017 WSOP schedule. We anticipate a similar series to last year with a few new wrinkles, but ensuring a broad array of options to satisfy every potential participant.”

The series has what are called gold bracelet events, satellites, cash games and daily deepstack tournaments (thrice a day), building up to a Main Event of a final table of nine on the closing day. The opening weekend will start with Colossus III, the world’s largest live poker event, which is a three-day USD565 buy-in re-entry no-limit hold’em tournament from 2-4 June. In the previous two years, Colossus had 43,987 entries. The average WSOP gold bracelet event in 2016 had a prize pool of USD3,205,961 with the winner grabbing USD555,475. This is serious poker! There were as many as 15,767 winners from among the 107,833 entries from 107 countries, thanks to the new 15 percent payout structure. The grand winner was Qui Nguyen, who beat out 6,737 players at the WSOP Main Event, which was televised by ESPN.

Other popular events include the Casino Employees event, a single reentry format with a USD565 buy-in, Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, Little One for ONE DROP, Seniors Event and Ladies Championship. The WSOP plans for more than 70 official ‘gold bracelet events’ and weekends will have no-limit hold’em ‘weekend warriors’ and entry-level and championship-level buy-ins for many poker variations. There will be around 500 poker tables to cater to the expected volumes.

After the winnowing to select the best players, the No-Limit Hold’em WSOP Main Event Championship will run from 8-17 July.

Online tournaments from (real money online) and 888poker (international poker partner with satellite qualifications) are the keys to win a seat in the WSOP.
